Latvian Peat Association

Latvian Peat Association (LPA) was established in 1996. LPA unites Latvian peat producers, entrepreneurs and natural persons, which have given significant investment for the industry development.
The aim of the Association is to stimulate the development of Latvian peat producers’ industry, creation of workplaces and a rational, environment-friendly and sustainable use of peat resources, preservation of environmental diversity and bog resources, as well as to represent and defend the interests of members.

Latvian peat industry wants to see the European Green Deal as an intention for the promotion of peat extraction for the horticulture and forestry use, for creating greater added value to peat products in Latvia, contributing to the national economy and population, as well as achieving climate neutrality through compensatory measures.

European Commission LIFE programm project LIFE REstore “Sustainable and responsible management and re-use of degraded peatlands in Latvia” (LIFE REstore, LIFE14 CCM/LV/001103) invites to participate in the international conference "Sustainable Management of Degraded Peatlands and Climate Change Mitigation” that will take place on June 13-14, 2019 at the Academic Center for Natural Sciences of the University of Latvia (1 Jelgava street, Riga, Latvia). The goal of this conference: to raise awareness of peatlands’ role in climate change mitigation.
